Divorce rate decreasing, marriage rate slowly rising

Illinois residents may be interested in learning that, after a dramatic peak in the divorce rate in the 1970s, the number of people seeking to end their marriage has decreased in recent years. The precise reasons for this increase and decrease are not known, although experts have made speculations as to the cause over the years. By a similar token, the marriage rate has also been in flux.

Companies seeking to develop marijuana tests

Illinois is one of many states that have legalized the use of marijuana for medical purposes. However, there are growing concerns when it comes to public safety, particularly surrounding the use of marijuana when driving. In fact, a study found that the number of car accidents involving drivers who were under the influence of marijuana actually doubled in Washington following the legalization of the substance for personal use in that state.

Electronic child support processing updates

The ability to manage financial issues electronically can be a huge help to Illinois residents and businesses. Recognizing the advantages of online child support processing, the Office of Child Support Enforcement is preparing to make an updated web portal available to businesses using this avenue for handling payment and reporting. The new page is expected to be available in mid-2017 and will hopefully add to the current 214 businesses using the system on a national scale.

Divorce disrupts retirement

Some Illinois residents may have heard that the American divorce rate skyrocketed during the 1970s and the 1980s. Although the rate appears to have stabilized somewhat since then, marriages between baby boomers are still breaking up, and the economic aftereffects of a divorce appear to be affecting them on a wide scale.
