Is a stepparent adoption in the best interests of your child?

As most blended families in Illinois can attest, being a dedicated, loving parent does not necessarily require a biological connection. Many stepparents develop a deep and loving bond with their stepchildren, and this relationship can be made even more profound through a successful adoption. Of course if their biological mother or father is still an active and present role model in the child's life, this option might not be ideal. However, for those without the frequent contact of one biological parent, a stepparent adoption can be life changing.

Experts take a guess at top reasons for 2015 divorce filings

While there are still just three and a half months left in the year, some experts are already predicting what the top three reasons behind divorce filings in 2015 will be. The estimates appear to be based on the results of a survey from another year, but the implications are likely still relevant for Illinois couples. Depending on the reason, couples might have the choice to either file for a no-fault or at-fault divorce.

Divorce trend sweeping the Internet shows lighter side of divorce

Divorce is often framed in a negative context, and from what most people see on TV or at the movies, there is often little evidence suggesting otherwise. While, of course, most couples in Illinois did not marry with the intention of divorcing one day, that does not necessarily mean that the process has to be a miserable, drawn out ordeal. In a new trend sweeping across the Internet, some divorced couples are showing just how positive a divorce can be.

One group files for divorce far more often, researchers say

Given that the vast majority of marriages in Illinois are between a woman and a man, it would follow that approximately half of all divorce filings are made by men, and the other half by women. Recent research turned up data in sharp contrast to that presumption, and revealed that one gender is responsible for the majority of divorce filings. The reasons behind this might be as complex and unique as a couple's decision to end their marriage in the first place.
