Sonni Pachec says Jeremy Renner's home unsafe for child custody

Following the wild success of the Marvel Avenger movies, Jeremy Renner may now be a household name in many homes in Illinois. However, more recent news concerning the actor who portrayed Hawkeye on the big screen seems to have less to do with his acting and more to do with his divorce. Although Renner's wife filed for divorce only two months ago, the issue of child custody is already a heated issue. They were married for less than a year.

My child custody dispute is heading to court; can my kid testify?

When divorcing parents are unable to mutually agree on a child custody agreement that will be in a child's best interests, they have the option of proceeding to mediation to sort the problem out. While mediation is often an effective and successful course of action for establishing the most appropriate child custody agreement, not all Illinois couples will come out any better than they went in. Litigation before a judge is typically the next step, but there may be some big questions to sort out first.

Make sure separate assets stay separate in a property settlement

Depending on a couple's personal and financial needs, it can make sense to continue to maintain separate bank accounts with personal funds even after getting married. In some cases, one spouse may have worked hard to carve out his or her name in the business world, and the financial assets accrued from that endeavor may be deeply personal. However, even if those funds are maintained in a separate account, when it comes to figuring out the property settlement, it may not be clear whether those assets are separate or marital property.
